The Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfasts are back soon! Join us...
This Sunday, September 8
after the 7:00 and 9:00 AM Masses.
Donations gratefully accepted!
The Knights would like to thank everyone who came to the Pancake Breakfasts last year and this past spring. We were able to raise $3346 that we passed onto several deserving charities.
Remember, the Knights of Columbus Pancake breakfasts are
and help us to financially support various activities and programs throughout the year. The breakfast in September will be used to raise funds to assist the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Fatima Council 9597 to help cover expenses for the many charities we support.
This weekend we celebrate the first Parish-School Mass of the year. School and parish alike have been excited by the positive response to this monthly collaboration, and the students truly enjoy being a part of this central part of our life as one parish family.
There are many exciting things happening at our parish school, including:
Robotics Club (which is participating in a metro area robotics competition in October!)
Lego STEM Club
A planned Washington, D.C. trip that this year's 7th graders are preparing to take at the end of their 8th grade year
And much more!
We are so blessed as a parish to have a parish school! Please pray for our students and their families, teachers, staff, and administrators.
Band of Brothers
The Band of Brothers, OLF's men's group, resumes their weekly breakfast, prayer, and fellowship meetings

Readings for the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion?”
- Luke 14:28
When I was growing up in northern California, there was a freeway overpass that sat half-finished for years, a crossing of two roads that failed to connect to anything, hanging in the air. A picture of it was preserved on our state history book as an example of government miscalculation.
Jesus is applying this same logic to our spiritual lives. He says: “In the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple” (v. 33). In other words, the
we have to have in reserve is
. Like so much of what Jesus says, this seems backwards or upside-down. We need to give up what we’re attached to – our possessions, our “father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life” (v. 26). We need to have
in order to have enough to complete the project we’ve begun. Enough of what?
I would argue that when we give up what we’re attached to, what we get in return is more freedom, more openness, more receptivity to what the Holy Spirit has for us. We are lighter and so better able to carry our own cross and follow him (v. 27).
For further reflection:
In Philippians 1:6 Paul says, “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” God is the ultimate builder. We are not just tower-builders, but towers for our God. In prayer consider, what might you need to renounce, to have less of, so that God might have enough of your emptiness to fill to the full with himself?
